Video 59: Get Rolling with Social Media – Create a Facebook Page for Your Agency

April 21st, 2011Posted by akassover in Insurance Agent Websites, Social Media, Videos

Hi, it’s Aaron from AgentMethods and I’m talking about insurance websites and insurance agent online marketing.  And yesterday, I talked just a little bit about how Facebook has become a really important indicator for search engines and checking out the authority and trust level of your site because if people link to it in Facebook, they are putting their name and sharing with their friends behind that link, and so they’re going to do it with quality sites more often than low quality sites.

Now, Facebook really is sort of the 800-pound gorilla in social networking, social media.  And there’s a lot of talk about Facebook and Facebook strategies.  You can download eBooks on launching a Facebook campaign for your business and how to get the most of Facebook.  The truth is that I’m not sure you need a hidden strategy.  I’m not sure there’s just a secret.  I think it’s really just a matter of participating, just being there and being involved, getting engaged, using Facebook as tool in your business.  I don’t think there are any secrets to it; I think it’s just a matter of just doing it.

Now, to be honest, this is something that we at AgentMethods haven’t been doing very well.  We do have a Facebook page, but we really haven’t spent a lot of time nurturing it or growing it in terms of participating.  And so we’re going to change that.  We’re going to start participating on our Facebook page, we’re going to start sharing there, and we want to make sure that you’re involved in the dialogue.  And so I’ve got three things to ask of you today.

The first of which is if you don’t have a Facebook page for your business, go and create one.  Go and do it right now.  You know, take a few seconds and get your page set up.  Don’t worry about getting it perfect or getting too much information on there.  Just fill out the basic profile for now.  You can let it grow organically over time.  Once you have it ready, post a comment, or send a message with a link to your Facebook page so that we can like it.  We’re going to like you.

Number two is take a second to like our Facebook page, as well.  And, again, I’ll put a comment, a like button in the footer of this blog post so you can just do it quickly.  We’re going to be putting more content on our Facebook page, more useful links, we might even do some giveaways, some contests, really who knows, so make sure you like us.

And then the third is to make Facebook sharing easy for your site.  If you haven’t already done so, add an “add this” button or a “share” button on pages where you think there might be candidate, people to share.  Just make it easy for them to go out and spread the word about your site so that your website is getting tied into the Facebook ecosystem.

So that’s it.  It’s simple.  You know, I don’t think you need to worry too much about getting it perfect right now.  Just start taking some steps, get involved, and we’ll grow from there.  Thanks for watching.  I will have more tomorrow.
